ORAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE

ORAL EXAM - ON THURSDAY!

You will take your oral exam alone.

Speak for 1-2 minutes (time yourself) about any topic in units 10, 11, 12 or The The Joy Luck Club.

PRONUNCIATION – To make sure you are pronouncing your words correctly, REVIEW pronunciation in the book, listen to your CD and repeat, ask someone who knows whether you are pronouncing words correctly or not.

FLUENCY – To make sure you don’t have long pauses or “Ums, ERRs, ESTEs,” practice in front of a mirror, record your voice and listen to it, prepare your topic, present it to someone before the test.

VOCABULARY – at least 5 vocabulary words must be correctly used in your speech.

GRAMMAR – use at least 5 different grammar structures (verb tenses) we have learned.

TIPS:

Don’t speak for too long.

Be original – try to pick a topic no one else will pick; be unique! This is VERY GOOD for your grade.

Plan your speech, but DO NOT write out a script and memorize – this will sound bad.
